Feast of fun for Glossop Youngsters

FROM swimming to squash, there will be something for everyone as High Peak’s leisure venues gear up for February half term.
The Borough Council has joined forces with DC Leisure to ensure no one gets bored as schools close between Monday, February 18 and the following Saturday.

The fun starts in Glossop Swimming Pool on the Monday with an exciting Aqua Scooter session running from 1pm to 1.45pm. The motorised scooters allow thrill seekers aged eight and over to ride and glide underwater for just £5 a go. Places are limited so early booking is advisable. There are also Aqua Scooter sessions on Wednesday & Friday
The water will be a hive of activity once more on the Thursday with our Family Giant Inflatable session at 1.00pm – come and try out our ‘Commando Run’ giant inflatable.
All public swimming sessions are free for the under eights and the pool is  offering a £5  swim pass for children aged eight and over. This gives children unlimited swimming for the full seven days during the holidays
Glossop Leisure Centre has also lined up some fun-packed events including junior gym taster sessions from 2.45pm to 3.45pm on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Aimed at 11 to 15 year olds, the supervised fitness suite workouts are led by qualified instructors at a cost of just £2.25.
Holidaymakers of a more artistic persuasion will be making a beeline for supervised Art Attack crafts workshops on the Monday and Thursday. Booking is essential for both classes.
Other highlights include skipping games and obstacle courses for four to eight year olds on the Tuesday from 9.30am to 10.30am, cost £2.25; and three, one-hour junior squash coaching courses on the Saturday from 4pm to 7pm. The lessons are intended for four to seven year olds; eight to 11s; and 11 years and over.
Last but not least, would-be Wayne Rooneys will be in for a treat with a junior football camp run by Derby County Football club. This is on Friday 1pm – 4pm.
Anthony McKeown, executive councillor for community services, said: “We’ve pulled out all the stops to make sure that families can have fun and get fit together during the holidays.
“These marvellous events underline our commitment, and that of DC Leisure, to promoting healthy lifestyles”, he added.
